Painting is something I began doing when I was about 12 years old, I majored in art at high school and attended workshops at the Arnot Art Museum in Elmira New York for three years, studying figure drawing, still life painting and portraiture. I have been passionate about art and the study of art history for over thirty years. I have no interest in the pursuit of a "Degree" in art, and never have. It seems that all to often the students creativity is redirected towards emulating what the institution and its professors like or teach. Which is fine if you can develop your own style and succeed as an artist after school and not end up doing the same thing your professor does, which is much more likely. Even in the eighties only about 10 percent of all art majors made their living creating art, most end up in catering or working in retail, or teaching and it's even worse than that now, no thanks. Nothing against teaching, but I always wanted to paint and not teach. In the late seventies I painted dozens of original works, in addition to that I started painting rock inspired jean jackets with portraits of artist from that era. Most were commissioned work, and very popular. Life and a family became a priority soon after that and I gave it up for a while. I worked as a carpenter for many years and thoroughly enjoyed what I did. I began painting again in 2011, and after nearly thirty years since my last work, I'm back. I paint what excites me, usually working on more than one work at a time. hope you like what you see.
